Robert “Bob” McDonald player number #710 was born in Bordertown in 1944 and passed away on 24 June 2024.
In 1965 & 1966 he won the best utility player in Sturt’s seconds. In 1967 he captained the Sturt’s seconds, and played in the South Australia State Seconds team where he was also made Captain. The same year he came third in the second’s Magarey Medal.
In five seasons at Sturt Football Club he was named for six senior and 89 seconds games.
His work took him to Sydney where he continued playing football with the Balmain Tigers In 1970 he was awarded the Phelan Medal as the state best and fairest and an all-Australian representative.
Bob never stopped following Sturt and during his son’s wedding in 2002 when Sturt defeated Centrals in the grand final and he announced the result in his bridal toast to cheers from his family.
