Sturt Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of past player Michael Hogarth, who made his debut for the Double Blues in 1986 as player #868. Michael and his cousin Paul both joined Sturt that year, playing alongside each other in what was a memorable season for the family.
Born and raised in Mildura, Michael was an exceptional talent in both football and cricket. A small, fast wingman and rover, he spent most of his football career with the Imperials, where he became a local legend.
Michael came from an extraordinary family, and though he was known for his humble and shy nature, he was immensely proud of his father Kevin, who won a bronze medal in boxing at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Around five years ago, Michael was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND). Despite this challenge, he faced his illness with remarkable strength and a positive outlook. In September this year he had the honour of presenting the premiership cup to his beloved Imperials at the Sunraysia Grand Final.
Michael passed away on Friday, 4 October, leaving behind his wife Carol and their five children. His legacy, both on and off the field, will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Michael. Your courage and dedication will forever inspire us.
