Sturt Football Club mourns the passing of Dr Elmore Leske, who made his league debut for the Club on 26 April 1952 as player #563. At 96, he was believed to be Sturt’s oldest living player.
Beyond football, Dr Leske was a distinguished academic, serving as a lecturer at the Australian Lutheran College and Lutheran Teachers College, and holding senior positions at institutions in Australia and England. His lifelong dedication to education, theology, and language was widely recognised, earning him an honorary doctorate in 1993.
A devoted family man, Dr Leske is remembered for his passion for learning, commitment to faith, and love for gardening, particularly his orchids.
The Club extends its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
