With the 24th pick in the 2025 Telstra AFL Draft, Sturt is proud to see our exciting young midfielder Harley Barker selected by Geelong.
Barker has long been regarded at Unley as one of the most damaging and dynamic prospects in this year’s draft class. His performances for South Australia at the under-18 national championships — where he starred on a wing — showcased exactly why he has been so highly rated across the competition.
Harley’s work rate, athletic profile and desire to challenge opposition coverage drew natural comparisons to now-Cats star Ollie Dempsey. His standout carnival earned him a well-deserved place on the wing in the under-18 All-Australian team.
Unfortunately, after returning to Sturt following the championships, Barker suffered a torn ACL that ruled him out for the remainder of the SANFL season. Throughout his rehab, he has shown the same professionalism and resilience that made him such a standout at junior level.
At 187cm, Harley offers a taller wing option with elite speed, exceptional endurance and a penetrating kick capable of breaking open defensive structures. Off the field, he brings a strong background in athletics and volleyball — traits that have translated into his explosive on-ground movement.
Everyone at Sturt is thrilled to see Harley’s dedication rewarded with an AFL opportunity. We congratulate Geelong on securing a player of his calibre and look forward to watching his progress at the highest level.
