Dual Premiership player Mark Evans (sponsored by Portabello) has advised the Club of his retirement following this weekend’s match against South Adelaide.
An ongoing hamstring issue continues to affect the 29-year old’s fitness. After discussions with coaches, medical staff, and family, he has decided to call time on his 155-game career.
Evans made his SANFL debut with Norwood Football Club aged 17 years. Playing 41 league games with the Redlegs he transferred to Sturt at the end of the 2014 Season.
Accolades include:
- 2018 Rick Davies Medal,
- 2018 Ken Farmer Medal
- 2016 & 2017 Premiership Player
- 2016 Runner Up Ken Farmer Medal,
- The Advertiser SANFL Team of the Year (2016 & 2018)
- 2009 State Under 18’s Team
Senior coach Marty Mattner said of Evans:
“There is no more reliable kick for goal in the team than Evo, in fact it wasn’t long ago that he was second in Australia for goal accuracy. Mark is an example to younger players on how to prepare for games, his professionalism is unsurpassed. It has been a pleasure to coach and get to know Mark personally.”
The Club wish him and wife Ashleigh all the best for the future and look forward to seeing them both at Sturt games.
