Thank You, Daniel Schoell đź’™
With 11 SANFL League games and 9 goals in the Double Blue, Daniel Schoell concludes his time at Sturt Football Club following a journey defined by resilience, determination and perseverance.
Debuting in Round 4, 2022 as player #1280, Daniel joined the Double Blues from the Onkaparinga Valley Bulldogs, bringing his strength and versatility as a forward and ruckman.
Just four games into his League career, Daniel suffered a devastating patellar tendon rupture that would keep him sidelined for almost four years. Despite multiple surgeries, setbacks and a challenging rehabilitation journey, Daniel never gave up on his goal of returning to League football.
His determination was rewarded in 2025 when he returned through the Reserves and featured in the Reserves Grand Final. In 2026, Daniel completed his remarkable comeback, returning to SANFL League football 1,383 days after his last appearance.
🗣️ Senior Coach Marty Mattner said:
“Daniel’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. To suffer such a serious injury so early in his League career and then show the determination to work his way back is a real credit to his character. There were plenty of challenges along the way, but Schoell never gave up. His resilience, work ethic and commitment to the football club have been outstanding, and we’re all incredibly proud of what he’s achieved. He’s a great teammate and someone who has earned enormous respect from everyone at Sturt.”
Daniel’s comeback is a testament to his character and serves as an inspiration to his teammates and the wider football community.
We thank Daniel for his dedication, resilience and commitment to Sturt Football Club. His determination to overcome adversity and return to League football will always be a memorable part of his Double Blue journey.
