We couldn’t hold off Norwood Football Club who kicked away in the last and won by 14 points after the Double Blues had an early lead.
We started the game well by kicking the first 2 goals through Sophie Hoyle and Lane Trenorden. Our mid-field set up well and gave our forwards first use of the ball for majority of the quarter, but the Redlegs finished off the first quarter better and scored a goal late to have us only 4 points up.
The second quarter was played in Norwood’s forward half with the Redlegs having repeated forward 50 entry. Our defenders did a great job keeping Norwood at bay and only allowed one goal score. Hannah Prenzler and Alex Ballard were our best performers down back and did a great job structuring us up. We finished the quarter with a goal from Lauren Lovell who scored a great crumber. We went into half time 1 point in front of last year’s grand finalist.
The second half was well battled and although we had just as many scoring opportunities as Norwood, we were unable to take our chances and score goals. Zoe Prowse did a great job in ruck and competed well around the ground. Izzy Kuiper and Lucy Griffith gave us great structure and first use of the ball.
We continue to improve and compete against good opposition but are falling short on the score board. We have the weekend off which will allow us to have a few extra nights on the track before taking on Central District at X Convenience Oval Friday the 15th of March.
