The Weekend Wrap: Strong Performance Sets Up Crucial Win
Senior Coach Marty Mattner has shared his insights on the weekend’s game, and there’s much to celebrate.
1. Dominant 1st Quarter Our team delivered an outstanding performance right from the get-go, making the first quarter one of the best of the season. With a remarkable 5.4 score from 14 inside 50 entries, we set a strong foundation for the game ahead. A special shoutout to Burrows for kicking 2 goals in the opening quarter, helping us seize control of the match. This remarkable start played a pivotal role in securing the win against a determined opponent who was fighting to keep their finals aspirations alive.
2. Efficient Forward Line Our forward line showcased their efficiency and teamwork inside 50s. The forwards displayed an even spread of contributions, with Burrows and Grivell both netting 3 goals each. Hone and Mathews added 2 goals apiece, while Shute and Rentsch each chipped in with a goal. This collective effort in our forward line was a testament to our players’ skill and coordination.
3. Key Player Performances Doyle stood out in an exceptional performance. With 20 disposals, 33 hit-outs, 8 marks, 3 clearances, 1 goal, and 8 score involvements, he showcased his versatility and impact. His contributions were instrumental in our victory.
4. Solid Team Defence Our defence played a crucial role in the game’s outcome. In the first half, we caused turnovers in our forward half, which led to extended periods of ball possession in our favour. During the second half, we focused on defending from our back half, thwarting North Adelaide’s fast-paced attacks. Voss, Coomblas, Edmonds, and Page were standout performers, contributing significantly to our solid defensive efforts.
5. Reserves Triumph and Future Focus Our Reserves team delivered a stellar performance as well, embracing the concept of team-first football. Their dedication paid off with a strong victory. Looking ahead, they are shifting their focus towards this Friday night’s qualifying final against Centrals at Thebarton Oval.
