It was an eventful weekend for Sturt Football Club as our senior teams battled it out on the field against North Adelaide. Here’s a recap of the matches:
Senior Men’s: In a frustrating game our senior men’s team narrowly fell short, losing by six points. The game had our hearts racing until the final seconds when a shot on goal from nearly 50 meters out, by Josh Hone, unfortunately missed after the siren, which would have leveled the game.
Men’s Reserves: In a highly entertaining match, our reserves emerged victorious by five points. The game’s highlight came with a booming 55-metre goal from Charlie Molan, securing the win with a kick near the siren that sailed through the middle sticks.
Senior Women’s Team: Our senior women’s team secured a hard-fought victory, winning by three points in a low-scoring affair. The win keeps their final chances alive.
Women’s Development Squad: Unfortunately, the women’s development squad faced a tough challenge in their final game of the season, suffering a 46-point defeat.
Senior Men’s coach Marty Mattner expressed his frustration with the senior men’s performance, highlighting missed opportunities and lapses in concentration that allowed North Adelaide to capitalise.
Small forward James Matthews’ early exit due to concussion further compounded the challenges. Matthews will now enter concussion protocols, sidelining him for the next two games.
On a positive note, standout performances included Jared Dakin’s game with 28 disposals, seven tackles, and five clearances, along with defender Flynn Perez’ solid contribution with 22 disposals and 11 marks.
Looking ahead, we gear up to face Glenelg in the ANZAC Day clash on Thursday, April 25th, with matches scheduled as follows:
- Reserves: 11:30 am
- League Men: 2:10 pm
- League Women: 5:00 pm
Let’s rally together and show our support for the men and women as we strive for success in the upcoming fixtures.
