Signed, Fergus McFadyen

Sturt Football Club is excited to announce the signing of exciting young forward Fergus McFadyen for the 2027 season. 💙🩵

Twenty-year-old Fergus joins the Double Blues from the Brisbane Lions’ VFL program, having progressed through the Brisbane Lions Academy and represented the Allies at the 2024 AFL Under 18 National Championships. The 189cm forward has developed into a dangerous attacking option, known for his strong marking and ability to hit the scoreboard.

Fergus enjoyed a breakout VFL season in 2025, kicking 35 goals from 19 games and earning recognition as a finalist for the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal, awarded to the competition’s most promising young talent. Across the past two seasons, he has played 30 VFL games and kicked 47 goals for Brisbane.

There is already a strong McFadyen connection at Unley, with Fergus the younger brother of former Double Blue Connor McFadyen, who was a member of Sturt’s 2025 SANFL premiership side and kicked two goals in the Grand Final victory over Glenelg.

Football Manager Geoff Riddle said 🗣️
“We’re really excited to welcome Fergus to Sturt. He’s a talented young forward who has already shown an ability to impact games and hit the scoreboard at VFL level. We believe he has plenty of growth ahead of him and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue his development in the Double Blue.”

Welcome to the Double Blues, Fergus. 💙🩵
