Sturt Football Club proudly congratulates Tony Burgan on his induction into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame – a fitting recognition of an outstanding player and a true Double Blues great.
Tony wore the Sturt guernsey with distinction from 1967 to 1979, playing 244 League games and kicking 122 goals, along with 8 State games for South Australia.
A member of five Sturt premiership teams – 1968, 1969, 1970, 1974 and 1976 – Tony’s achievements also included selection in the 1972 All Australian and All Stars teams, three The Advertiser SANFL Teams of the Year and representation for South Australia across four seasons.
His standing in the history of our Club is unquestioned. Tony is a Sturt Player Life Member, Sturt Hall of Fame member, member of the Sturt Team of the Century, Jack Oatey Vintage 21 Team and SFL Greatest Exports Team.
The numbers tell part of the story, but they don’t capture the impact Tony had on Sturt Football Club and the legacy he leaves for generations of Double Blues.
Congratulations Tony – thoroughly deserved recognition for a Sturt legend.
Once a Double Blue, always a Double Blue.
