Double Blues went in to Saturday’s game without mid-fielder Jess Foley and youngster Rachel Dunstan who were rested. This saw the debut of Elsie Daws and Dani Barolo who both played up forward against the Redlegs.
It was a similar story for Sturt FC with the girls unable to play consistent football over 4 quarters. Norwood started well and were able to kick 2 early goals in the first quarter. Shae Gundlach who won Round 6 Powerade Breakthrough Player, kicked a set shot goal from 30m to keep the Double Blues in touch going into the first break.
In the 2nd quarter we were able to control the play and keep Norwood goalless, unfortunately we were unable to hit the scoreboard ourselves. Captain Caitlyn Swanson, Ellen Maple and Nicole Baker all worked hard in the mid-field to keep control of the 2nd quarter and have us go into half time still in the game.
The 3rd quarter was one to forget with our girls dropping away from what made them competitive in the first half. Norwood took advantage of this and kicked 3.1 to our 1 point and kicked away to a 35-point lead. At 3 quarter time, the girls looked dejected and were asked to keep positive and have confidence in their method of play and ability to move the ball forward.
In the last, although the playing groups output was marginally better, Norwood still outscored us kicking 2.2 to our one goal kicked by Jess Schulz from a set shot after catching her opponent holding the ball 20m out from goal.
This week we play South Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval on Sunday at 3:30pm. See you there.
