We claimed our first win in the SANFL Statewide Super Women’s League against Glenelg at The Parade on Friday night. Jess Foley, Ellen Maple and Captain Caitlyn Swanson were instrumental in the win and gave us first use of the ball out of the midfield. Sophie Hoyle who went forward and was fantastic in keeping the ball in our Forward 50.

At half time the Double Blues were in front by a goal and looking confident. Glenelg came out in the second half and kicked 2 goals but to our players credit, they were able to match it and kicked 2 of their own. Bec Palmer kicked a nice checkside goal on the outside of her boot in traffic from 20m. Then following it up by kicking her third major when she shaped to turn on to her left foot, only to change direction sharply and snap truly from 20m on her right boot.

In the last quarter Glenelg had most of the play and continued to press forward. Although the Tigers had 4 scoring shots, kicking 1.3, the Double Blues were able to hold Glenelg at bay to win the game by 2 points. Hard work and composure of the Sturt backline contributed to the win, led by Shae Gundlach and Hannah Prenzler.

The playing group look forward to this week’s game against North Adelaide 7:45pm at City Mazda Stadium.
