Sturt 2017 League Premiership player Byron Sumner has been suspended from playing for the first 6 weeks of the SANFL season.
Sumner was cited by the SANFL MRP following three separate incidents in the League trial against West Adelaide on Friday 23rd March.
He received a 2 match ban for striking West’s Izak Rankine and a 1 match ban for a low impact strike on West’s Daniel Webb. He also received a further 3 match ban for a second strike on Webb amounting to a 6 game suspension.
Sumner gave an early guilty plea on each case for a reduced sentence however the sentence was increased for each case due to bad record loading stemming from a suspension in season 2017. He will be eligible to return to Sturt ranks in Round 8 against Glenelg on Saturday May 26.
