2021 Indigenous Guernsey – Part 4

The theme of NAIDOC Week 2021 is “Heal Country, Heal the Nation.” Sturt Football Club exists on Kaurna country, and it was important to the designers of our guernsey to reference them.

“One thing that was really important that Jeremy wanted to pay respects to was the Kaurna shield,” said Pat Caruso, Eastern Arrarnte Graphic Artist.

Jeremy Johncock, Wirangu and Mirning man and Sturt past player, added, “The Kaurna shield is prominent amongst the people of the Adelaide Plains, where Sturt resides. I thought it was very important to acknowledge that and play most of our SANFL football.”

The symbols of male and female also represent the male and female players of the club.

Stay tuned for the final design to be revealed tomorrow.
