Sturt Football Club Support National Close the Gap Day
The Sturt Football Club has thrown its weight behind National Close the Gap Day by signing the campaign pledge that urges state, federal and territory governments to close the 17-year life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and other Australians at their training last night.
Members of the club are calling on other South Australians to sign the pledge and show their support on National Close the Gap Day, Tuesday April 22.
Over 115,000 Australians have signed the Close the Gap campaign pledge in support of increased annual Indigenous primary health funding by $460 million, equal access to health services and Indigenous participation in their delivery, and action on social determinants such as housing and education that are leading contributors to the poor health of Indigenous people.
A parliamentary event will be hosted by Oxfam Australia on May 1st to hand these signatures over to the State Government and ask for detailed state based plans that will support the commitment given by each government at the December 2007 Coalition of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting to fix the Indigenous Health crisis.
National Close the Gap Day, Tuesday April 22 is a national day of action that lets Australians show their support for closing the 17-year life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and other Australians within a generation.
