After a disappointing loss to North Adelaide last week the playing group trained and prepared well for their clash against West Adelaide. The Double Blues performed well in the first half and went in to the half time break only 2 points down. Cherie Bamford working from the midfield to hit the score board, with Lilla Berry on debut also kicking a goal.

The third quarter was disappointing as West Adelaide kicked 3.1 and kept us scoreless. We were not being able to defend quick enough on turn overs, which in turn gave Westies time and space in their forward line.

In the last quarter our players were encouraged to take the game on and to have confidence that our best footy would get us back in the game. Adelaide’s AFLW midfielder Georgia Bevan lead the way in her Statewide Super Women’s League debut for Sturt. Sturt Captain Caitlyn Swanson again performed well and gave us good drive forward. Shae Gundlach who has been a reliable defender for us was sent forward and proved she can be equally dangerous in attack with a nice snap shot on goal to put us within 13 points.

Although we kept West Adelaide scoreless in the fourth, we kicked 2.4 and fell 5 points short from taking out our second win for the year. Disappointed to have lost, our playing group needs to be commended on their performance and continued development as individuals and as a team. We now turn our focus to Norwood on Saturday the 17th of March at City Mazda Stadium.
